Professor Mathieson visited Dr Rayson Huang, the 10th Vice-Chancellor, in Birmingham in March 2014.

The first Chinese head of the University of Hong Kong, Rayson Huang Li-sung, has died. He was 94.
Dr Huang took his undergraduate degree in chemistry at the University of Hong Kong in 1938, before going on to undertake doctoral research at Oxford University and post-doctoral research at the University of Chicago. He then taught at universities in Malaysia and Singapore.
He was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong in 1972, a post he held until his retirement in 1986. Shortly after taking up the position he managed to quell student demonstrations during the Queen's visit to Hong Kong.
He became a member of the Legislative Council in 1977, staying for six years. During this time he served on the Drafting Committee for the Basic Law.
