A police officer has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife at their home in Northampton - just yards away from his force's headquarter.

Detective Constable Otis Goldsmith, 49, was taken into custody yesterday afternoon on suspicion of murdering his wife Jill, also 49.

She and Goldsmith had got married in May last year and lived together at his £140,000 semi-detached property, less than a mile from Northamptonshire Police's HQ at Wootton Hall.  

Today, Goldsmith's elderly mother Sylvia and father Michael, both 81, who live in nearby Rushden, Northants, expressed their distress at their son's arrest.

Mrs Goldsmith said: 'We don't know any details about what happened but Otis has been arrested.

'He and Jill only married last year. This is a very difficult time for us all.' 

DC Goldsmith has three sons from a previous marriage, twins aged 17 and another aged 20. His wife is believed to have had a 22-year-old son from a previous marriage.

The officer's ex-wife Catherine Goldsmith, 52, the mother to his children, also confirmed he had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

When asked if she was aware her ex-husband had been arrested on suspicion of murder, Mrs Goldsmith, who lives in Northampton, said: 'Yes.'

She added: 'I've been told by the police to tell people who call me to please contact the police.' 

Officers were called to the property in Wootton Hall Park shortly after 1pm yesterday where the arrest was made.

The officer, who has served with the force for 28 years, was said to be off-duty at the time of the alleged offence.

Speaking outside the officer's house today, Superintendent Christopher Hillery said: 'I would like to offer mine and Northamptonshire Police's condolences to the family and friends of the victim of this incident.

'We were called to a private address at Wootton Hill Park just after 1pm yesterday and arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

'I can now confirm the man arrested is Police Constable Otis Goldsmith, an off-duty officer from Northamptonshire Police.'

He added: 'Otis Goldsmith has served with Northamptonshire Police for more than 28 years.

'What has happened has understandably shocked and upset many people in the local community, and again I would like to offer our sincere condolences to all those affected.'

They were formerly owned by Northamptonshire Police before being sold off privately and many were bought by serving and retired officers.  

Today, the house was cordoned off, with a police officer on guard. Curtains at the downstairs window were also drawn. 

Neighbours of Det Con Goldsmith described him as 'a really good guy' who had lived on the street for at least 15 years.

In 2009, he reportedly received a medal for his service to the police.

Resident Gary McBain, 58, said: 'Otis is a good guy. I have been here since 1999 and they had been living here for a while then. 

'We know him quite well, as do the whole street. All the children used to play outside on the green when they were growing up. So it is a close community.

'Otis has been in the police force for at least 20 years. I am not sure who has died or what has happened exactly. 

'But Otis is a really good guy. Everyone on this street will tell you that.' 

He added: 'He has several children from several marriages. He has a few children.  

'This is a highly sensitive area. People here generally know each other.

Officers were called to the home at just after 1pm yesterday which is less than a mile from the force's headquarters

'These houses were sold and most of the people living in them now are either retired or serving police officers.' 

'I didn't hear anything but saw them out of the window. We are used to seeing police cars on this road so it isn't unusual but I knew it was serious when there was a cordon. 

'The incident happened at number 11 and I understand the officer arrested was Mr Goldsmith.' 

Another neighbour added: 'He is known as Otis, but I think his first name is Adrian. 

'He's been in the force a long time and is close to retirement. All I will say about him is that he is a good guy.'  

During his career with the force, Det Con Goldsmith has been vocal in his fight against street robberies.

In June 2003 he led a campaign in Northampton urging people to keep an eye on their possessions during the summer months.

Speaking at the time, he told the BBC: 'I would like to reassure people that we have taken a number of measures such as increasing patrols in a bid to deal with this, but I would ask people to think about their own personal safety and be streetwise.

'The fear of crime is often much greater than any risk of becoming a victim, but it is a good opportunity for us to remind people of the need to be sensible and take care of themselves and their property.' 

The force said the murder investigation will not include anyone from Northamptonshire Police and will instead be led by an East Midlands Special Operations Unit, headed by Detective Superintendent Kate Meynell.

The case has already been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.   

Detective Superintendent Kate Meynell, who is heading up the investigation, said: 'A full and proper investigation is taking place. Northamptonshire Police will not be making any further comment on this investigation at this stage.'

1.在家中可用番梘泡可迅速止癢， 原因成分含鈉鹽，如：C17H35COONa。這種脂肪酸的鈉鹽水解後顯鹼性(含OH-)，蟻酸水溶液中含H+，因為肥皂水中的OH-與蟻酸的H+中和成H2O，因此可迅速消除痕癢。

2. 如果叮咬處很痕，可先用手指彈一彈，再塗上花露水。

3. 用鹽水塗抹或沖泡被叮處，這樣能使腫處軟化，還可以有效止癢。

4.可用蘆薈葉中的汁液止癢。被蚊子叮咬後紅腫兼極痕時，可切一小片蘆薈葉，洗乾淨後掰開，在紅腫處擦幾下，能消腫止癢。

5. 用萬金油和鹽，可局部麻醉並舒緩神經，減輕痕的感覺。

6. 將含阿斯匹靈的藥丸磨碎溝水塗抹在傷口上，也有消炎消腫功效。

7. 只要肯改吃鹼性蔬菜，如蕃茄、蓮藕、波菜、生菜等，少吃肉，體質及血液都會偏微鹼性，不但蚊子不愛叮，就算被叮之後，也不至於會太痕。

8.  用鹽水，牙膏(最好水果味)塗抹，安全無毒無副作用，同樣有消炎，消腫作用。

9.  用藥用酒精或碘酒效果都不俗，安全，無毒無副作用。

科學家：人類可「返老還童」!!!

返老還童和青春永駐，是不少女士的願望，而這個夢想或許絕非奢想，事關有科學家已成功完成一個重要的實驗，發現減緩人體衰老、降低犯病比率，以及延長人類壽命的方法。史丹福大學的科學家Helen Blau，早前成功把人體衰老細胞，轉化成年輕的細胞；又發現延長端粒(Telomere)的長度，能夠使人體的細胞變得更年輕。

端粒可以說是染色體的「保護帽」，能夠保持DNA細胞的健康；隨著DNA分裂，端粒會越來越短，最終失去保護功效；而DNA的損傷和突變，則是導致人類衰老的原因。

可是，科學家早前發現可以使用改良了的核糖核酸(RNA)，延長人類端粒長度，並加速DNA細胞分裂的速度，逆轉人體細胞的生命時鐘。研究人員除了希望把這個成果，應用在治療衰老性疾病外；亦計劃在未來研製有效抗衰老的藥物，以達致「青春永駐」的功效。

A high-flying academic who travels the world as a Government adviser is set to be deported from Britain under 'barmy' new visa laws - because she is out of the country more than 180 days a year.

Dr Miwa Hirono, 38, is originally from Japan but has been living in the UK since becoming a lecturer at the University of Nottingham seven years ago.

The world-renowned academic's work - which helps the UK Government to set foreign policy - requires her to spend long spells working in China and Africa.

In 2009 and 2010 she spent around 200 days abroad researching China's foreign peacekeeping and humanitarian operations.

But Home Office immigration laws now state that people working in the UK on a migrant visa cannot be out of the country for more than 180 days each year.

And despite the fact Dr Hirono does research for a Government-funded organisation and her baby son was born in Britain, the Home Office has decided to deport her.

Her university colleagues have slammed the decision as 'vindictive and bone-headed' but the Home Office has refused to back down.

Today, Dr Hirono, who lives in Beeston, Notts., with her husband Peter Trebilco, 61, and their one-year-old son Tada, said: 'It came as a massive, utter shock. 

'My Australian husband quit his job to join me in the UK as a family. I bought a house in Beeston two years ago and gave birth to my son here.

'I have my life here, everything is here but I have to give up everything.

Battle: Dr Hirono's university colleagues have slammed the decision as 'vindictive and bone-headed'

'It is idiocy. 

The Government funded my research and now they are penalising me for hard work and contributing to their policies.

'I have one published paper which is uploaded on the UK embassy in Beijing's website. They changed the visa rule in 2012 and have applied it retrospectively to my travel in 2009 and 2010.

'What has happened to me is absolutely wrong and everyone understands my point except the Home Office. 

'I thought this was a democratic country with natural justice but it doesn't seem that way.'

Dr Hirono, an expert in international relations, has decided not to appeal the decision because the cost of the process would make it 'impractical'.

Instead she has taken a job at a university in Kyoto, Japan, and the family are leaving the UK on March 29.

Her husband Peter said the Home Office decision has caused the family to uproot their whole life.

Left with no choice: Dr Hirono, an expert in international relations, has decided not to appeal the decision because the cost of the process would make it 'impractical'

He added: 'It tears at your heart because we've gone to great lengths to make good friends in the neighbourhood and we're very supportive and contribute to the community.

'We're having to tear our son out of nursery, give up a home we've established, with neighbours we're very fond of, and none of that is our doing.

'It's an inflexibility - the law does not have the capacity to deal with individual situations. It's our whole life.'

Dr Hirono came to the University of Nottingham in 2008 on a prestigious five-year Research Council UK fellowship, which then became a permanent role.

But when applying to extend her visa last March, she was banned and told she would be deported because of the foreign travel aspect of her job.

University bosses even wrote to the Home Office to tell officials that the trips were part of her job.

In December, Dr Hirono won an appeal against the Home Office with a judge suggesting it would not be in the national interest to deport someone who had 'made a significant and profound contribution to the academic framework of higher education in this country'.

But that ruling was later overturned and immigration bosses confiscated the family's passports a year ago.

Professor Mathew Humphrey said Dr Hirono's research had had a significant impact on policy towards China, including on the UK's co-operation programme with the country.

Philip Cowley, professor of parliamentary government at the university, said: 'It is pure madness for the government to be driving out an expert on what is probably the most important foreign policy challenge of the next decade.

'Both from a human perspective and from the interests of the UK, this is indefensible.' 

Dr Hirono's local MP, Anna Soubry, even wrote to Home Secretary Theresa May asking her to consider the decision, but no action was taken. 

A Home Office spokesperson said: 'Ms Hirono's application for indefinite leave to remain was refused in July 2014 because she had spent more than 180 days outside the UK.' 

Government officials told her she could keep in touch with friends in the UK via skype after ruling her private life should be given 'little weight'. 

Dr Hirono said she believes her case will have a wider impact on the UK's ability to hire foreign professionals.

She added: 'This could mean the UK loses its capacity to hire any foreign professional on a permanent basis.

'Who would want to stop their live elsewhere and move everything to the UK only to be kicked out after five years.'

睡前做以下簡單8件事 就可以輕鬆瘦身
